Who am I?

I am Ravindu Meegoda, a solo traveler, travel designer, and the creator of Go Solo Ceylon. Among my travel buddies, I am simply known as Ravin. I help travelers explore Sri Lanka with confidence and excitement through experience-backed itineraries, destination guides, and simple tools based on the routes I have personally traveled.

My mission is to show the world the real Sri Lanka. I focus not only on the trending locations but also on the hidden gems that most travelers never hear about.

I travel independently most of the time, but I have also explored Sri Lanka alongside travelers from all around the world. These experiences helped me understand what travelers struggle with and what they truly want from their time in Sri Lanka.

Where it started

Go Solo Ceylon began in 2023 during my long solo adventures across Sri Lanka. I met travelers who were excited to explore the country but often felt overwhelmed. They did not know the routes, struggled with transport, found monsoon seasons confusing, visited the most popular spots without discovering anything new, or had trouble finding trusted places to stay. Many of them had no idea that Sri Lanka had so much more to offer.

At the same time, I discovered countless incredible places that often go unnoticed. Hidden waterfalls, quiet beaches, friendly villages, breathtaking viewpoints, and cultural experiences offered far more magic than the usual tourist trail.

With no prior web design experience, I pushed myself to learn everything from scratch. I spent long days working tirelessly to build Go Solo Ceylon from zero because I wanted to create something better, easier, and more complete than what already existed online. That passion is still at the heart of this project.

My Background

I have spent months exploring, researching, studying, and learning from fellow travelers across Sri Lanka. This experience is not just about visiting destinations but understanding them deeply. I have explored the coasts, hill country, forests, ancient cities, train routes, and off-the-beaten-path regions. Every destination guide and itinerary I create is based on my personal journeys, the routes I tested myself, ideas and tips from fellow travelers, and my curiosity about what more Sri Lanka can offer.

My first travel companions were a German traveler and two Austrian girls I met on my first solo trip. Since then, I have traveled with people from many countries and made close friends along the way. Traveling with them taught me how diverse travelers’ interests can be, yet how everyone falls in love with Sri Lanka’s waves, green hills, culture, and warmth.

My Qualifications

My strongest qualification is my real travel experience and the routes I have personally explored. I also bring professional travel design experience, extensive local knowledge, experience planning trips for foreign travelers, and a creative self-taught approach to web design, mapping, content creation, and itinerary building.

Go Solo Ceylon is now my full-time work. I built it purely out of passion, creativity, and commitment.
